Amiga Format now available

At last, the long-awaited Amiga Format is now ready for download – grab it here. We’ve got all 136 episodes, plus a collection of miscellaneous “specials” – probably not complete, but you can’t have anything.

Specials aside, I believe this is the first complete collection of Amiga Format available. I’ve pulled most of the scans from various existing sources around the Interweb, and kudos to whoever they are. I’ve plugged a couple of the gaps with scans from my own collection.

Due to the mixed sources, the file sizes vary a bit, and the whole thing weights in a whopping 20Gb – and that’s after whittling down the DPI on some of the more impressive scans. Be glad you live in an era of cheap disk storage, and remember that any torrent client worth it’s salt will be able to pick out individual files for download if you don’t want the whole collection.

So go forth and download, and don’t forget to leave it seeding afterwards 🙂

Thanks again to everyone who’s donated, emailed or helped out. Next? Maybe Personal Computer News, whilst I figure out how I’m going to
scan Amiga Power 😛

Amiga Format – no news is good news

Just in case anyone thought I’d gone – no, I’m still here. I’ve spent far too long dithering over Amiga Format, trying to get a rag-tag collection of PDFs into some kind of decent size and consistency. I’m also, frustratingly, missing one issue – issue 16. I swear I have a copy somewhere, but a thorough search of cupboards, garages and boxes has failed to turn it up.

In the meantime, I’m hopefully going to get everything except issue 16 bundled together and released in the next couple of weeks. Might want to buy another hard drive, it’s going to be a moster …

Retro RetroPDFs

.. and the first post of 2015 has nothing new:

  • Firstly, I’ve finally got around to reworking MicroHobby, the Spanish language Speccy mag. This was incredibly popular when I first posted it, but the image quality wasn’t as good as it could be, and the torrent has been offline for a while (although this wasn’t deliberate, I just … er… misplaced it. It’s now all recrunched and ready to go.
  • Your 64 was missing issue 4. Nothing personal, Commie64 fans 🙂 It’s now in the new torrent; if you have the existing torrent, just download over the top of the existing files and this should add the missing issue.
  • Finally, Crash issue 1 had a slight problem with page 8 – although it was there in all it’s glory, the DPI of the image was set to 224dpi rather than the standard 96 – which meant the image appeared tiny. So either zoom in, or download the new torrent.
  • Grab all of this from <a href="here“>the usual page.

In other news, I’m nearly there with Amiga Format – I’ve got all the issues collected together, just need to OCR them and they’ll be released to the world. Stand by!

    Commodore Format now available

No post-Christmas-work-party hangover for me, and two posts in as many weeks, so I’m feeling smug. Besides, for some reason, I did all the work on this collection a year ago, and stuck it away in a dusty corner of my hard drive and forgot about it.

Commodore Format is a C64 (and, presumably, C128) games mag from the classic days of Future Publishing. It strikes me that they came to the party a little late: by 1990, the Amiga was well established, but I guess as it lasted 60-odd issues there were plenty of 8-bit gamers around.

As usual, grab it from the increasingly-crowded list list of available collections. I’ve also repointed the torrent files to a file hoster just in case some of you don’t like magnet files.

    The Micro User now available

Haha! Just when you thought that an entire calendar year would go by without a new release, I go and prove you wrong. No excuses, just extreme laziness. Thanks again to everyone who’s donated.

“The Micro User” was a format-specific title for the BBC Micro and it’s descendants (although Wikipedia mentions it also covered the Cambridge Z88 – maybe because it used BBC Basic?). It lasted an impressive 115 issues before morphing into Acorn Computing – another one for the “to-do” list.

My torrent-hoster-of-choice, TPB, appears to have been scuppered, so I’ll see about moving the files to another host in the near future. In the meantime, the magnet links at here are your best choice – as always, feel free to email me if you need to get hold of the .torrent files.
